Design Director
2015 - Present

Provide hands-on leadership to shape the direction of digital products for a variety of clients such as Marriott, Freeform, and YouTube.

Develop design concepts, frameworks, simple prototypes, and detailed design flows for clients. I also create UX deliverables such as user personas, user journey diagrams, site and app maps, and functional annotations.

Assist in recruiting efforts, review potential candidates and attend portfolio reviews for SVA and AIGA. And as part of our mentorship program, I work with a few junior designers on aspects of career development as well as provide design and project feedback.

Work with our New Business team to develop leads and assist with pitches by conducting research and competitive analysis, providing insights into content strategy and new opportunities to shape the product.

The Washington Post

Director of Digital Strategy

Opened an office in NYC (WPNYC) to lead redesign efforts for the Washington Post's web platform. We worked on scope, strategy and execution of a site-wide rethink involving CMS capabilities and UX as well as consumer-facing experiences.

Built a new team from scratch, hiring 6 design and strategy veterans from different industries with experience in research, UX, product development and background in solving complex design challenges.

Collaborated with members of the newsroom, engineering teams as well as advertising on a product roadmap.

Implemented product development & design sprints to generate ideas, designs, prototypes and concepts for user testing.

Designed plans and interviews for formal and ad-hoc user testing sessions. Developed recruiting strategies for both internal users as well as external candidates for new product ideas.

Worked on design strategy and hiring for the Coral Project, a collaboration between the Washington Post, the New York-Times, the Knight Foundation and Mozilla to build an open-source community and commenting platform.

The Washington Post

Director of Digital Design

Member of the core digital leadership team in the newsroom that focused on setting strategy and priorities for company-wide initiatives.

Built and managed a nimble 10-person team focused on all digital, mobile and new product design. I created positions for and hired specialists in user experience, interaction design and development, motion graphics and visual design.

Launched a redesign in 2011 and a design refresh in 2014.

Conceptualized news products such as a live events platform, a politics app for Election 2012, an enterprise story template and evolved the designs for the iPad and tablet apps.

My hands-on design work involved art direction, information architecture and overall UX strategy.

Worked in partnership with companies like Google, Tumblr, Storify, Twitter and Facebook on creating new products for news consumption.

As readership habits changed and technology evolved, I had the honor of being a key voice in how to rethink the core news products at the Post.

Had the privilege of working on digital storytelling methods and presentations for award-winning journalism projects that millions of people see.
